Why Do Cruise Ships Sail Into Dangerous Storms?
Over the years we have reported on many instances of cruise ships sailing into dangerous storms, putting passengers and crew members at risk. This week a Norwegian Cruise Line ship sailed into a storm and was hit by powerful wind gust, causing it to list onto its side. Several passengers were hurt in the incident.
Cruise ships often sail into dangerous storms. In fact, we blogged yesterday that Norwegian is currently being sued for having previously sailed into a “bomb cyclone” storm.
Other cruise companies have also come under fire for similar reasons. Royal Caribbean was criticized after having sailed into a hurricane.
It would seem that with modern meteorological technology, cruise companies would be able to avoid sailing through hurricanes and cyclones.
