USA Today: Drug Smuggling Ring Busted Moving $2.6 Million Worth of Cocaine Aboard Cruise Ships
Over the years we have blogged about various individuals and groups who have attempted to smuggle drugs aboard cruise ships. Perhaps the most notorious such smuggling operation was busted last year and involved a drug smuggling ring that traveled around the world with cocaine. Now, authorities say another smuggling ring has been broken up.
USA Today reports that 12 individuals, ages 20 to 52, have been arrested for participating in a smuggling ring which attempted to move $2.6 million worth of cocaine through European ports. The cocaine was reportedly disguised in ceramic bowls and Cheetos Puff bags.
The suspects attempted to import the drugs on a cruise from the Caribbean to Portugal last week. They are currently being held in Portugal, pending judicial proceedings.
