U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Man Windsurfing from Cuba to United States
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man off the Florida Coast Wednesday, and later found he is fleeing Cuba.
WSVN.com reports that the Coast Guard intercepted Elian Lopez about 15 miles from Islamorada. Apparently, Lopez is a Cuban deserter, who left the island for the United States on a windsurfing board.

“He basically left, and only his wife and his daughter knew about it, and they expected him to arrive before night of the next day,” said the man’s cousin Dunia Rodriguez.
USCG Petty Officer Martin McAdams says that when the Coast Guard hauled him in, Lopez was “showing symptoms of dehydration, fatigue; he was very weak.”
The Coast Guard has not released information about Lopez’s current medical condition.
