Witnesses said that the worker stepped out of his vehicle and was struck by the deputy.
Following the crash, the deputy reportedly rendered aid to the victim until first responders arrived. First responders then transported both the deputy and the victim to the hospital for medical treatment.
“It was an accident, the guy stepped out, and you can’t step out in ongoing traffic,” said witness Bernard Fisher.
The victim is reportedly in intensive care.
