Police Classify 2020 Boating Under the Influence Case as Manslaughter
In 2020 a 49-year-old woman died when a boat on which she was traveling crashed Now, authorities are charging the boat’s captain with her death.
MiamiHerald.com reports that the victim, Saronne Lee Prater, died when 71-year-old entertainer Johnny Louis “Jeep” Caillouet crashed an 11-foot Carolina Skiff at Key West. Authorities allege that Caillouet was intoxicated with alcohol and prescription pills at the time of the crash.
At the time of the crash, the National Weather Service had issued an advisory for small crafts, reports the Miami Herald. “During the night of the accident the National Weather Service recorded gusts approaching 40 knots,” said Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission spokesperson Bobby Dube.
The night of the incident a powerful wave struck the vessel that Caillouet was piloting, throwing both Caillouet and Prater from the boat. Prater suffered fatal injures and authorities at Lower Keys Medical Center later pronounced Prater dead.
