The occupants of the vehicle, both from Lompoc, California, were both killed in the crash.
Authorities are not sure if the Tesla’s automated driving system was in operation at the time of the crash.
The NHTSA has been investing fatal and nonfatal crashes involving Tesla’s auto-drive system for months.
