News: Woman under arrest on DUI charges for deadly crash near Sawgrass Mills mall
SUNRISE, FL – Police have arrested a suspected drunk driver in connection with a fatal crash in Sunrise on Nov. 18, 2021, reports WPLG.
The suspect, 33-year-old Emily Bell of Sunrise, was arrested on several charges, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
The accident happened in the area of Northwest 136th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard near the Sawgrass Mills mall at about 11:30 p.m. Authorities said Bell was driving a Lexus SUV at over 30 miles over the speed limit when she struck the rear of a Nissan Altima. The Altima driver, Roosevelt Joseph, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bell’s passenger was seriously injured.
Police said they determined that Bell was driving under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time the collision occurred. She was being held Thursday morning at the North Broward Bureau.
