News: Woman struck, killed by vehicle in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea
LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, FL – A crash that killed a pedestrian in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea recently is under investigation by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place near the 1800 block of South Ocean Boulevard Dec. 5 at about 6:45 p.m. Investigators say the pedestrian, an adult woman, was crossing from east to west when she was struck by a Chevrolet Astro van driven by 55-year-old Joseph Martyn of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead of her injuries the following day at an area hospital.
After the crash Martyn kept driving several hundred feet before stopping and walking back to the crash scene, detectives said.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, which is investigating the incident, said the pedestrian was out of the designated crosswalk area at the time she was struck.
