News: Woman on scooter dies after colliding with Brightline train in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – Authorities said a railroad accident in Pompano Beach Saturday morning left a woman dead.
WPLG reports the woman was riding a Sanmen County Yongfu 150 CC scooter in the area of Copans Road and North Dixie Highway when the incident took place at 11:19 a.m.
Investigators with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said the woman was going south on North Dixie Highway when she crossed over the railroad tracks, went diagonally across the eastbound lanes, and struck the side of a southbound Brightline train. A witness said the railroad safety arms were in the lowered position and the railroad crossing lights were flashing when the crash occurred, according to the sheriff’s office.
The rider, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The BSO issued a reminder to drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists to never go around the lowered safety arms at a crossing when a train is approaching.
