News: Woman killed when Corvette crashes through guardrail on Dolphin Expressway
MIAMI, FL – Authorities were at the scene of a fatal crash on the Dolphin Expressway that snarled traffic early Monday morning.
According to NBC Miami, the incident happened in the expressway’s westbound lanes near Northwest 42nd Avenue shortly after 3 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that the driver of a Chevrolet Corvette lost control of the vehicle, struck a barrier wall, went through a guardrail and ended up in the median.
A woman who was a passenger in the car was declared dead at the scene. Her name was not released. The man who was driving sustained minor injuries.
Traffic was backed up in both directions through the area as lanes were shut down for more than five hours after the crash. Drivers were advised to take Northwest 7th Street as an alternate route.
The accident remains under investigation by the FHP.
