News: Woman hospitalized after Brightline train hits her car in Aventura
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A woman was hospitalized after her car was struck by a Brightline train in Aventura on Monday afternoon.
The driver, Amy Charal, recounted the incident in an interview with WPLG from her hospital bed.
The incident happened on the railroad tracks along 21500 E. Dixie Highway near the border of Hallandale Beach at about 3 p.m.
Charal, driving a Nissan Altima sedan, attempted to drive around an SUV that was waiting at the tracks and her car was hit by the train.
She managed to get out of the car and was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Charal told a reporter that she was “lucky to be alive.”
She was issued a citation for the incident by Aventura police, who said she was at fault. No other injuries were reported.
