News: Woman charged with DUI in Pompano Beach crash that killed pedestrian
POMPANO BEACH, FL – An alleged drunk driver is facing charges in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident in Pompano Beach last year, reports NBC Miami.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Jeanie Ann Wilkins was arrested on Tuesday for the Sept. 6 incident. Wilkins was driving a Dodge Journey SUV in the 2400 block of N. Federal Highway when she jumped a curb, went onto a sidewalk and struck a man near a bus stop.
The victim, 69-year-old Andre’ Louis Gilds Sr., was pronounced dead at Broward Health North Medical Center. Authorities said Wilkins had her two children, ages 3 and 6, with her in the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Blood sample results that came back last month showed her blood alcohol content to be well above the legal limit, and she was arrested on DUI manslaughter and multiple DUI property damage charges.
