News: Teenager dies following Central Broward dirt bike accident
CENTRAL BROWARD, FL – Broward County detectives are investigating a dirt bike accident last week that claimed the life of a teenager.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened July 19 in unincorporated Central Broward shortly before 10 p.m.
Investigators determined that a 16-year-old boy was riding a Kawasaki KLX 140 dirt bike south on Southwest 40th Terrace near the intersection with Southwest 18th Street when he was unable to stop and went past a stop sign. The bike hit a chain-link fence and then crashed into a house.
The teenager was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died of his injuries July 20.
Detectives are looking into the possibility that the incident occurred due to the bike experiencing a brake failure.
