News: Teenage driver in custody after SUV crashes into home in Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A teenager was taken into custody after crashing a stolen SUV into a home in Fort Lauderdale early Monday morning, police said.
According to WPLG, officers responded to the scene of the crash in the area of Northwest 15th Avenue and Fifth Street at about 4 a.m.
The incident began following a report of a car that had been stolen from Southwest 8th Street Sunday night. Officers began following a vehicle that matched the description of the stolen vehicle. As they followed, police say the driver started driving erratically, lost control and slammed into the house. Police added that there was no pursuit involved. The driver was taken to Broward County’s Juvenile Assessment Center.
No one inside the house was injured, but a woman and her two daughters living there were displaced. The home sustained significant damage and was deemed unsafe to live in after being inspected.
