News: Stolen car crashes into canal in Doral following police pursuit
DORAL, FL – The driver of a stolen vehicle was killed in a crash in Doral on Friday morning, CBS Miami reports.
Doral Police said a man driving a stolen white Volkswagen Golf sped off when officers tried to stop him at about 6:15 a.m.
Police initially were pursuing the suspect but said they backed off after he left the Doral city limits and drove into an area around NW 58th Street and 117th Avenue that was deemed unpaved and unsafe.
The vehicle hit a guard rail and ended up crashing into a canal near Doral Meadow Park, and the driver was pulled from the water by rescue divers.
He was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately released. No passengers were in the car.
Miami-Dade homicide police are investigating the incident.
