News: Police motorcycle officer injured in accident on Florida’s Turnpike
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – An accident on Florida’s Turnpike in Martin County sent a police motorcycle officer to the hospital, WPTV reports.
Port St. Lucie Motor Officer Joseph Byrne was on his way to a memorial service for an FBI special agent when the incident occurred Saturday at about 10 a.m.
The officer was headed south on the highway when he was knocked off his motorcycle by a piece of tire from a tractor-trailer. The piece initially came off of one truck, then went under another tractor-trailer and was propelled toward Byrne.
He was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and was released on Sunday.
