News: Pickup truck hits pedestrian on South Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach
DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Deerfield Beach last week, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators said 69-year-old Janet Thornbloom of Deerfield Beach was walking across South Federal Highway from west to east Wednesday night when she entered the path of a northbound GMC Sierra traveling in the right lane.
Thornbloom was struck by the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sierra, 70-year-old Raymond Uppstrom of Deerfield, stopped immediately after the accident.
The incident is under investigation by BSO traffic homicide detectives, who do not believe that excessive speed or impairment were contributing factors.
They added that Thornbloom was not in a designated crosswalk at the time she was hit.
