News: Pickup truck driver killed when vehicle plunges into bay in North Bay Village
MIAMI, FL – A crash involving a pickup truck in North Bay Village Tuesday morning left a driver dead, authorities said.
According to WSVN, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of the 79th Street Causeway at about 7 a.m.
Witnesses told investigators the pickup truck driver veered off off the roadway and the vehicle plunged into the bay, ending up partially underwater.
Miami Fire Rescue crews cut the roof off the truck to extricate the driver, but he could not be saved. It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to go off the road.
The eastbound lanes were shut down for about five hours as authorities investigated, causing major traffic delays through the area.
