News: Person of interest sought in fatal Homestead hit-and-run
HOMESTEAD, FL – Authorities have identified a person of interest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in Homestead last week, reports WPLG.
This is an update to a previous story.
The person police are searching for is 20-year-old Edgar Mendez of Homestead. Detectives are trying to locate him in regards to the fatal incident that occurred on Jan. 16 at about 9:30 p.m. The victim, 71-year-old Carlos Diaz, was struck and killed by a vehicle in the area of Campbell Drive and Northwest First Avenue in Homestead.
Police said the driver involved left the scene, went through a red light nearby, and collided with another vehicle. The driver of the first car got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Anyone with information pertaining to the whereabouts of Mendez, was asked to contact Homestead police or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers.
