WEST PALM BEACH, FL – An accident in West Palm Beach Wednesday morning left a pedestrian dead, authorities said.
According to WPTV, the victim was identified as 55-year-old Richard M. Massa of West Palm Beach. The incident occurred near the parking lot of a CVS store on Jog Road near Okieechobee Boulevard at about 6:10 a.m.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Massa had exited the parking lot pushing a shopping cart when he entered the path of a Peterbilt semi that was turning from Okeechobee Boulevard onto North Jog Road. According to investigators, the driver of the semi tried to steer clear of the pedestrian but Massa kept walking and was hit by the passenger side of the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Part of Jog Road was shut down for the crash investigation. The sheriff’s office said Massa was not utilizing a nearby crosswalk at the time he was hit.
