News: Pedestrian fatally struck by pickup truck leaving Oakland Park business
OAKLAND PARK, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Oakland Park last week.
In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the accident happened Dec. 1 in the 3100 block of Northwest 9th Avenue at about 2:48 p.m. Detectives said 47-year-old Odonel Caty was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck while exiting the parking lot of a business when a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk entered his path.
The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle, knocked to the ground and run over. The victim was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced dead the following day. The BSO said the pickup driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Excessive speed is not believed to have been a factor in the incident, according to detectives.
