News: Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Deerfield Beach
DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office reports it is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a car in Deerfield Beach on Sunday night.
Investigators say the accident occurred as the pedestrian was trying to cross westbound on North Federal Highway at Hillsboro Boulevard at about 8:45 p.m. The victim, whose name was not released, was hit by a 2019 Honda Fit and was pronounced dead after being transported to Broward Health North.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the traffic signal was green at the time of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle involved, 78-year-old Frederick Eckel of Boca Raton, was reported to have stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The sheriff’s office said it did not appear that impairment or excessive speed were contributing factors in the incident.
