News: Man struck and killed by SUV while walking in the Florida Keys
KEY LARGO, FL – State troopers say a 68-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV while walking in the Florida Keys.
The Miami Herald reports the fatal accident happened Sunday on U.S. 1 in Key Largo at about 7:10 p.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was walking across the highway at mile marker 104 when he entered the path of a northbound Ford Expedition. The driver, 50-year-old Emory Jose Fernandez of Miami, swerved but was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Eugene Oscar Ehrenkaufer.
The FHP said Fernandez stayed on the scene following the accident. There was no immediate word on whether charges would be filed in the case.
