News: Man charged with leaving scene of Bal Harbour crash that killed 14-year-old
BAL HARBOUR, FL – A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Bal Harbour last year, according to WPLG.
26-year-old David Plazas was charged Tuesday with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. The case stems from an Aug. 22, 2021 incident in the area of Harbour Way and Collins Avenue.
Investigators said a 14-year-old boy was taking his bicycle across a pedestrian walkway when he was struck by a Kia Optima driven by Plazas at about 6:13 p.m. The teen died after being taken to Ryder Trauma Center.
Plazas allegedly left the scene of the crash without stopping to help.
Plazas was already in jail on a previous kidnapping charge. Bail was set at $2 million in the hit-and-run case after a judge stated that he was a flight risk and posed a danger to the community.
