News: Man charged in Lake Worth Beach hit-and-run that killed bicyclist
LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL – Authorities announced an arrest in a hit-and-run incident that killed a bicyclist in Lake Worth Beach.
According to a report by WPTV, 40-year-old Corey A. Bell of Boynton Beach was arrested Tuesday in the March 11 crash at 1901 12th Avenue South.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Bell was driving a stolen Toyota Matrix at high speed on Cochran Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. when he hit a mailbox and then ran off the road while trying to turn at an intersection.
The car entered an overhang and hit 74-year-old James Beloian of Lake Worth Beach as he was straddling his bicycle. Beloian suffered fatal injuries.
Investigators said the car then struck a building and ended up in a parking lot, and that Bell and a passenger fled the scene.
DNA evidence indicated that Bell had been in the car. The passenger, 19-year-old Daniel Mafadens, was arrested in April.
Bell is now charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He is being held on bond.
