News: Lake Worth man dies after crashing car for 2nd time in same day
DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – Authorities said a man died after a car accident in Deerfield Beach last week, the second crash he had been involved in that day.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release identifying the victim as 47-year-old Shane Martin of Lake Worth.
Investigators said Martin had been driving a Honda Accord July 13 when he was involved in a minor traffic crash on South Dixie Highway at about 5 p.m. and then fled the scene.
As he continued on South Dixie Highway, the sheriff’s office said Martin’s vehicle hit a concrete curb, went onto the sidewalk, struck a light pole and then slammed into a bus bench. The car’s engine caught fire as a result of the impact.
Martin was rushed by rescue crews to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the crash is continuing by traffic homicide detectives with the sheriff’s office.
