News: Homestead police searching for driver who struck and killed 5-year-old boy
HOMESTEAD, FL – Police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a 5-year-old boy in Homestead on Saturday night.
According to WPLG, the child was hit on Redland Road near Lucy Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. He was transported to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
Homestead Police said the driver involved left the scene afterwards. They want to speak with the driver of a vehicle that was seen on surveillance video leaving the area around the time of the incident. The vehicle was a white pickup truck that was towing a U-Haul double axle trailer. Investigators say that so far, that driver is considered a person of interest in the case.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to contact the Homestead Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
