The incident occurred in a shopping center parking lot in the area of Southwest 11th Street and 27th Avenue at about 10 p.m. Detectives said the victim, 25-year-old Jader Zeledon Ruiz, was attempting to break up a dispute between the driver and another person when the driver struck Ruiz with the vehicle and dragged him. The driver struck two parked cars and then left the scene.
Ruiz was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Police have released surveillance video from the incident in hopes someone will recognize the vehicle, a red 2013 to 2016 Mercedes Benz CLA that is believed to have extensive front end damage.
