News: Driver, passenger die in crash while fleeing police in Kendall
WEST KENDALL, FL – A driver trying to elude police was involved in a deadly car wreck in Kendall Thursday morning, according to a report by NBC Miami.
Miami-Dade police said the incident began when officers were following a sedan seen speeding on Krome Avenue. The officers had their lights and sirens on as they tried to stop the car. The driver of the sedan collided with a pickup truck after making a right on Kendall Drive and left the scene, police said. The driver then lost control of the car and hit a tree in the area of Kendall Drive and Southwest 168th Avenue at about 11:40 a.m.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Luis Castillo, and a passenger, 29-year-old Ornella Di Paolo, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was not seriously hurt.
The crash shut down a portion of Southwest 88th Street while police were investigating.
