News: Driver killed when car crashes into trees off U.S. 1 in Florida Keys
TAVERNIER, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal car accident in the Florida Keys Monday night, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
The incident took place in the area of mile marker 91 along U.S. 1 in the community of Tavernier. The FHP said a 51-year-old man was driving south on the highway just before 10:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car. The vehicle crossed both lanes and flipped onto its side before crashing into two palm trees.
The driver, a Homestead resident whose name was not released, suffered fatal injuries. Investigators said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time.
The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were shut down in the area while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
