News: Driver dies in tanker truck accident on I-595 ramp in Davie
BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver died in a fiery truck accident in Broward County Sunday afternoon, according to WSVN.
The incident involving a fuel tanker truck occurred on Interstate 595 near the Florida Turnpike in Davie at about 3:45 p.m. State troopers said the 53-year-old driver was heading west when he went off a ramp and hit a concrete wall on the right shoulder, causing the vehicle to overturn, ignite and catch fire.
The driver, a Homestead resident, was not able to escape the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tanker truck was carrying about 8,000 gallons of gasoline, causing a fuel spill on the roadway. I-595 was closed in both directions along with some lanes on Davie Road as firefighters battled to contain the flames and crews worked to clear the fuel spill.
The FHP is investigating the cause of the wreck.
