News: Driver detained following deadly Hialeah Gardens collision
HIALEAH GARDENS, FL – A driver has been detained and is expected to face charges in connection with a deadly accident in Hialeah Gardens, WSVN reported.
38-year-old Lavarius Bethel was taken into custody after police said he drove a pickup truck that struck a pedestrian, then hit a school bus and three other cars. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Some students on the bus sustained minor injuries.
The accident took place as Bethel was exiting the Palmetto Expressway onto Northwest 103rd Street.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Bethel underwent a blood test to determine whether he was impaired at the time of the incident. CBS Miami reported that Bethel had been stopped dozens of times previously for traffic violations, including driving with a suspended license.
