News: Driver charged with DUI following multi-vehicle wreck on Florida Turnpike
MIRAMAR, FL – Police said a suspected drunk driver went the wrong way and caused a crash on the Florida Turnpike Sunday morning, reports WSVN.
43-year-old Ciazaris Emilio Rodriguez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The Florida Highway Patrol said Rodriguez was driving a Lexus south on the northbound lanes of the turnpike in Miramar at about 4:40 a.m.
The Lexus hit a wall on the shoulder of the roadway and the impact sent it back toward the center lane, where it struck a Honda. The Honda swerved to avoid hitting other vehicles and then hit a tractor-trailer.
One of the drivers involved was hospitalized but no details were released on the person’s condition.
The accident shut down all lanes of the turnpike near the scene for nearly two hours.
