News: Driver and child killed in car accident on University Drive in Plantation
PLANTATION, FL – A car accident on University Drive in Plantation Thursday morning killed the driver and a child passenger, NBC Miami reports.
Police said the driver lost control of a Mercedes-Benz between Northwest 3rd and 5th Streets at about 3:30 a.m. The car then collided with a tree and caught fire. The driver and child, whose age was not released, were both pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
Firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze. University Drive was shut down in both directions between 3rd Street and 5th Street while the wreckage was being cleared and investigators worked the scene.
Drivers were advised to avoid North University Drive from West Broward Boulevard to Cleary Boulevard. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
