News: Coral Springs man dies after collision in Lauderdale Lakes
LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – The Broward Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating a deadly collision in Lauderdale Lakes early Monday morning.
The incident involved two vehicles that were both headed southbound on North State Road 7 at about 1:20 a.m.
Investigators said 44-year-old Walter Cuellar of Coral Springs was driving a Jeep Wrangler SUV at a high rate of speed while approaching the intersection with Northwest 41st Street. The front driver’s side of the Jeep hit the rear passenger side of a Honda Accord driven by 22-year-old Leahcim Corniffe.
The impact sent the Jeep across the northbound lanes, where it eventually struck a fire hydrant, sideswiped a bus stop and then hit a wall, causing it to roll over. The roof and hood of the SUV collided with a large traffic pole. Corniffe was able to maintain control of the Honda and bring it to a controlled stop.
Cuellar was pronounced dead after being taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Corniffe and his passenger, 21-year-old Cassandra Dolce, were not injured. They stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
