News: Car struck by Brightline train in Aventura after driver goes around gates
AVENTURA, FL – Authorities were at the scene of a collision between a car and a Brightline train in Aventura Thursday morning, the Miami Herald reports.
The incident occurred in the area of East Hallandale Beach Boulevard and South Dixie Highway sometime before 7 a.m. A Brightline spokesman was quoted as saying a driver went around crossing gates that were lowered at the time, with flashing and ringing bells indicating a train was approaching. The collision was captured on surveillance video.
The report said the incident appeared to involve fatalities in the car, but no further details were immediately released. No injuries on the train were reported.
The area of Southwest 11th Street and South Dixie Highway was closed off to drivers as police worked the scene.
