News: Car accident in Tamarac kills 76-year-old driver
TAMARAC, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating a car accident that killed an elderly woman in Tamarac.
The victim was identified as 76-year-old Barbara Axelrod of Tamarac. She was driving on Northwest 81st Street July 16 when the accident occurred at about 7:19 p.m.
Detectives said Axelrod was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Azera when she veered off the roadway, went over a raised center median and collided with a palm tree.
The car was redirected into the westbound lanes of Northwest 81st Street, where it came to a stop. Axelrod was taken to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead the following day.
Investigators do not believe excessive speed or impairment were factors, but did say Axelrod may have suffered some type of medical event prior to the crash.
