News: Brightline train collides with car, killing West Palm Beach man
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Authorities said a Brightline train collided with a car in Palm Beach County Sunday afternoon, killing the driver.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the accident occurred in the vicinity of 17th Avenue North and F Street in Lake Worth Beach at about 4 p.m.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said 48-year-old Hidegalde Perez of West Palm Beach was driving a Ford Fusion when he drove around the safety arm at the railroad tracks as the train was approaching. The Fusion entered the path of the train and was struck, causing the car to crash into a fence line and a power pole.
Perez was found dead at the scene.
Homicide investigators are looking into the cause of the incident. The roadway along the tracks was shut down for about four hours as part of the investigation.
