News: Bicyclists fatally struck on Rickenbacker Causeway identified
MIAMI, FL – The two bicyclists who were struck and killed by a vehicle in Miami Sunday afternoon have been identified, WSVN reports.
This is an update to a previous story.
The victims were 49-year-old Yaudys Vera and 46-year-old Ogniana Reyes. They were riding in the eastbound lanes of the Rickenbacker Causeway near the William Powell Bridge at about 4 p.m. when they were struck by a Jeep SUV. The bicyclists were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives said the two were struck as they rode back to their car following a trip to the beach.
The SUV driver was detained for questioning and was given several citations at the crash scene. The incident remains under investigation.
A bicycle ride in honor of the two victims was scheduled for Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
