News: Bicyclist dead after being struck by vehicle in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – Authorities are investigating an accident that killed a bicycle rider in Pompano Beach last week.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist was involved in a collision with a car on Dec. 9 at the intersection of North Powerline Road and Northwest 8th Street shortly before 6:10 p.m.
Investigators said the bicyclist was riding westbound, entered the path of a Honda Civic near the intersection and was struck by the vehicle. The impact sent the bicyclist toward the center median while the bicycle came to rest in the center lane, where it was struck by the driver of another Honda Civic.
The bicyclist, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
The two drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Detectives do not believe that excessive speed, impairment, or mechanical malfunctions contributed to the accident.
