News: 73-year-old driver dies after colliding with car in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – A crash that killed a driver in Pompano Beach last week is under investigation, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident happened Thursday night in the area of Federal Highway and Northeast 14th Street at about 9:45 p.m.
Investigators said 73-year-old William Walsh of Lighthouse Point was driving a Toyota Highlander SUV on Federal Highway when he stopped for a traffic signal. When the light turned green, Walsh headed south and sideswiped a BMW 750i sedan. The SUV went off the road and crashed into a metal fence surrounding a golf course. Walsh was taken to the Broward Health Imperial Point and was pronounced dead the following day.
Witnesses told detectives it appeared Walsh had some type of medical event before he accelerated through the intersection.
The driver of the BMW, 34-year-old Robert Blanchard of Pompano Beach, did not report any injuries.
