News: 7-year-old girl dies of injuries after being struck by SUV near Broward County school
PEMBROKE PINES, FL – A young girl has passed away after she was hit by a vehicle in Pembroke Pines last week, according to NBC Miami.
This is an update to a previous story.
The 7-year-old was pronounced dead at an area hospital from injuries suffered in the accident that occurred Thursday afternoon.
Police said she was riding her bicycle near Lakeside Elementary School, where she was a student, when she was hit by an SUV shortly after 2 p.m.
Police said the driver of the SUV, 40-year-old Nicholas Patil Matthews, hit the girl after suffering a medical event and going through a stop sign at the intersection of Northwest 10th Street and Northwest 136th Avenue.
Investigators do not believe drugs, alcohol or driver negligence contributed to the accident, but the investigation is continuing.
