News: 4 rescued following boat accident off Fort Lauderdale coast
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Four people were rescued after their fishing boat was involved in an accident off the Fort Lauderdale coast Tuesday morning, reports WSVN.
The boaters said they were returning to shore after a fishing trip when their vessel capsized about three-quarters of a mile offshore at about 11:20 a.m., sending the four into the water.
One of them managed to use his cell phone to call 911, and search and rescue crews from Broward County and Fort Lauderdale responded to the scene. All four were pulled from the water. One was taken to Broward General Medical Center after taking in too much water.
The boat was towed to the 15th Street Fisheries in Fort Lauderdale afterwards. The boaters believed the incident happened when their anchor became caught in the vessel’s propeller.
