HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Authorities said one pedestrian died and another was injured Sunday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
According to WPLG, the incident took place on Interstate 95 south near Hallandale Beach Boulevard at about 3 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a box truck ran out of gas in the I-95 southbound lanes and the driver and two passengers walked to a gas station.
As they came back to the vehicle, two of the three were hit by a dark-colored sedan. One victim, a 34-year-old man, died at the scene while another man, age 43, was seriously injured and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.
The FHP said the driver of the sedan left the scene and is now being sought.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed for several hours during the crash investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers.
