News: 1 driver killed, 1 injured when vehicles collide in Oakland Park
OAKLAND PARK, FL – One driver was killed and another injured when their vehicles collided in Oakland Park Monday morning, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office responded to the scene in the 1900 block of Northwest 38th Street after the incident was reported at about 9:46 a.m.
Investigators said the driver of a Chevrolet Express was parked on the swale on the southside of the roadway when the vehicle was hit head-on by a Nissan Versa that was going west on Northwest 38th Street in the eastbound lane of travel.
The impact caused the Versa to rotate before coming to a final rest while the Express was pushed backward. The driver of the Versa was pronounced dead after being taken to Broward Health Medical Center. The driver of the Express was critically injured and transported to the same hospital.
Traffic homicide detectives believe excessive speed by the driver of the Versa was a contributing factor in the accident.
