News: 1 dead, 6 injured after car crash into Miami Beach sidewalk cafe
MIAMI BEACH, FL – Police said a car crashed at a sidewalk cafe in Miami Beach on Thursday evening, killing one person and injuring six others.
According to WSVN, the incident happened at Call Me Gaby, a restaurant on Washington Avenue, at about 6 p.m.
Miami Beach police said an elderly woman was trying to parallel park a Bentley and accelerated onto the restaurant’s outdoor cafe, hitting a group of people sitting outside. All indications were that it was an accident, police said.
No details were released on the person who was killed. The six injured victims were hospitalized. One of them was a child.
The driver remained on the scene and was reported to be cooperating with investigators.
Washington Avenue between South Pointe Drive and First Street was closed while the scene was being investigated.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber released a statement that said in part, “Our entire city grieves for all the victims and their families.”
