New: Man accused of crashing into police car in Pompano Beach while driving drunk
POMPANO BEACH, FL – A man is facing criminal charges after authorities say he crashed into a police cruiser in Pompano Beach last month while driving drunk.
According to NBC Miami, Milos Blazic of Hialeah turned himself in this week in connection with the incident that occurred New Year’s Day at Power Line Road and Atlantic Boulevard at about 5 a.m.
Blazic is accused of hitting the back of an SUV driven by an off-duty Margate police sergeant, who suffered an arm injury in the crash and had to undergo surgery. A witness said the sergeant was stopped for a traffic light when the car was struck.
Prosecutors said Blazic was driving at a high rate of speed at the time and his blood alcohol level was measured at over the legal limit.
Blazic is now awaiting trial on nine criminal charges.
