National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month
March is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. This effort, started by the Reaching for the Stars advocacy group in 2006, is intended to bring greater attention to the condition and to increase interest and funding for research into treatments and services that can allow people living with cerebral palsy to get the most out of life.
Cerebral palsy is most often a congenital disorder marked by muscle rigidity and spasticity, difficulties with movement and coordination, speech and learning delays or disorders, and a host of additional physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms. People living with cerebral palsy may require special schooling, assistive technologies such as wheelchairs, and need round-the-clock care, all of which can be exceptionally expensive.
Getting Help
Various organizations offer assistance to families and individuals living with cerebral palsy in Miami and surrounding areas of Florida. When the condition is a result of an injury sustained during labor or delivery, one of those organizations is Hickey Law Firm.
Dedicated, effective, and thorough, our medical malpractice attorneys understand the complexities of these cases and are here to hold negligent healthcare providers accountable while seeking the full compensation your family is due.
Only a fraction of cerebral palsy cases are related to birth injury. These are often a result of improper monitoring or failure to respond appropriately to fetal or maternal stress. Cerebral palsy may also be the result of disease or illness during pregnancy, along with issues such as uterine rupture, and placental detachment. If you suspect your child’s condition is the result of a negligent doctor, nurse, or hospital staffer, you need a lawyer on your side right away to help protect your rights.
