Miami Area Attorney Purchased Over a Dozen Drinks Before Deadly Hit-and-Run
A Miami area attorney has been charged with a crime, after striking a woman and leaving the scene of the crash in December. Published reports indicate that the lawyer had purchased several hundred dollars’ worth of alcoholic beverages shortly before the collision.
Local10.com reports that 65-year-old Marcos Gonzalez-Balboa had been drinking at Bulla Gastrobar on December 6th, 2017 between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Gonzalez-Balboa can then be seen on surveillance video stumbling from the bar minutes later, the report says, as he approached his car.
Police say that Gonzalez-Balboa lost control of his vehicle as he drove toward Miami Lakes, striking 26-year-old Tatum Holloway as she walked across a cross walk. Holloway, who was from South Africa, was launched through the air and landed over 50 feet from the site of the collision as a result of the impact. Holloway later died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Gonzalez-Balboa is alleged to have fled the scene, in violation of Florida law. When police located Gonzalez-Balboa the next day, they say that it was clear that his windshield had been repaired.
Gonzalez-Balboa faces several criminal charges, the most serious of which is vehicular homicide. He is also being sued by Holloways family for wrongful death.
