MAN GETS AIRLIFTED OFF OF CRUISE SHIP
THIS JUST IN FROM PORTLAND, Ore. MANY QUESTIONS REMAIN. PERSONAL INJURY? MEDICAL MALPRACTICE? A Coast Guard rescue helicopter airlifted an 80-year-old man who had been near death from a cruise ship 60 miles off the coast of Oregon. After a medical crew aboard the ship revived him Sunday, the Coast Guard says, the crew of a HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Astoria hoisted and transported the man to the Oregon Health & Science University hospital in Portland. A nursing supervisor would not release information on the man’s condition Monday. The passenger’s name was not released. He was on the ship Dawn Princess with nearly 2,000 other passengers. QUESTIONS REMAIN as to what was the condition of the passenger which warranted airlifting. Was the condition caused by an injury from an accident casuing personal injury onboard? Was the condition caused or aggravated by the medical maopractice of the shipboard medical personnel? These are the questions we will be looking at over the next few days. At Hickey Law Firm, P.A., we just filed suit against Carnvial Cruise Lines last week for their medical malpractice onboard a ship. In that case, the captain of the ship refused to alter or change course even though the passenger, Helen Kerr, was in a critical state and needed real medical care off of the ship. The medical personnel on the ship, treated the pleural effusion (fluid in the lings) with the exactly wrong medication; instead of giving her medication to reduce the liquids in her lungs, that is diuretics, they gave her more liquids in her system. The passenger essentially drowned in her own fluids. See our website for information on what to do in the event of an injury in a cruise ship: https://www.hickeylawfirm.com/.
